Coastal Erosion

Government commission

The SGI is the Swedish governmental authority commissioned to have a coordinative role in reducing the risks of coastal erosion and damage caused by such erosion.

Aims of the SGI
The Institute has coordinative responsibilities in regard to coastal erosion with a comprehensive perspective based on society’s interests. The basis of the SGI is to contribute to preventive measures or restorative action through suitable land use planning and well-designed measures for threatened buildings, infrastructure and other areas worthy of protection. The Institute also provides support to municipal rescue services for risk evaluation in emergency situations.

The Institute establishes networks with Swedish and international authorities with responsibility or involvement in issues connected with coastal erosion.
